#704 Glycerine & Rose Water Skin Tonic

The combination of glycerine with rose water is a “traditional” skin tonic.  There are recipes in the Encyclopaedia of Practical Receipts and Processes by William B Dick, published in 1872, so there is evidence that the combination was in use the first part of Queen Victoria’s reign.

There are many recorded recipes comprising just the two ingredients.  The recipes only vary in the proportions.  I have settled on two versions.  One (this one) has a smaller proportion of glycerine to rose water.  It is a skin tonic for regular use.  My skin serum has a higher proportion of glycerine, and is intended as a more intensive treatment for use around eyes, for example.

I keep a 250 ml stock bottle of this tonic, and decant it into 50 ml spray bottles for use.  It can be sprayed directly onto skin.  The most popular us is for moisturising face and hands in particular, but it can be used on any but the most sensitive skin.  It stings if you get it in your eyes, use it on broken or scratched skin, or get it on sensitive body parts.

Ingredients:
    • 230 ml rose water
    • 20 ml food grade glycerine.
Method:

Put the ingredients in a glass bottle and securely close the bottle.  Shake the liquids to mix them.

It really is that easy!
